Ready, and raring to go
Kathmandu :
The mega event of the Nepali fashion world is round the corner and the ones making it happen are “very excited” to say the least, and “a little nervous”.
As many of them are first timers, the Sunsilk Nepal Fashion Week (scheduled from August 10-14) organised by IEC Institute of Art and Fashion is their dream come true. Enthusiasm, excitement, butterflies in the stomach, a yearning to be recognised as designers of tomorrow — this atmosphere pervades all else.
From traditional to the latest to mix-n-match to bridal to casual, both the first-timers and Nepal Fas-hion Week veterans have it all. Talking to them one can’t help but feel their contagious enthusiasm. Collection A sounds equally good as Collection C, and D...
From a collection devoted to ‘pink’ to a riot of colours inspired by nature to a purely white line, the show promises to be anything but vibrant and varied. Many are doing things to the traditional saree (like draping it in different ways), many have added that touch of the traditional to modern outfits.
However, whatever their theme and line, our designers feel designer-wear does not mean these clothes are out of common people’s reach or so fashionable that you can’t wear it on the streets. The majority have designed clothes that will suit almost anyone’s purse, and promise their designs are wearable.
Perhaps they echo Coco Chanel’s words: “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the streets, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
The fashion show is about a Nepal that is evolving, about a group of people who want to leave their mark in this changing world.
