Relationships: Being with the love of my life

Kathmandu:

I have been married to the love of my life for four years.

My family owned a departmental store in the heart of the city, and she was an area sales manager for a noodle company. She used to come to our store often, and as we got to know each other, we fell in love.

However, our relationship was not acceptable to my parents. According to them, this would be an inter-caste marriage that they would not accept in any case. And they tried to separate us. I tired to convince my parents, but they did not budge from their decision.

They got ready to get me married to someone else. But I knew I couldn’t go ahead with it. Though I despaired, I did not lose my composure. I believed that true love never goes in vain. After all, it was my marriage, and not a game which could be taken lightly.

Left with no other alternative, I left home. Then at a temple I married my love. We sacrificed many things to be with each other. I sacrificed my job, family and home, and she did likewise. But even after sacrificing everything, we are both very happy in our marriage.

I am now engaged as a marketing executive in a reputed advertising company. Though I don’t earn much, we are content with whatever we have. In times of financial crisis too, we never forget to celebrate our birthdays and wish each other a long and happy life. People celebrate their marriage anniversaries, but we celebrate our proposal day as anniversary.

I love my wife beyond anyone’s imagination.
