SCHOOL TIMES : Enjoy reading
Reading is recognised as an art capable of transforming man’s life and his entire society.
Whereas, habit is a combination of knowledge, skill and desire. When the terms, ‘Reading’ and ‘Habit,’ combine, the term ‘Reading habit’ is formed which generally refers to an individuals fondness of reading. Reading helps in many ways for a student’s growth.
Reading is very important as it is not only about enjoying a book but is also a necessity — the basic tool of education. Reading paves a path for a better future and it can be an exciting voyage to self-discovery too
Books are highly sought out medium through which knowledge is transmitted from generation to generation. But reading isn’t always easy. We’ve all come acroos texts that may have made us shake our heads with confusion, made us stop and take a break, or re-read it numerous times and maybe even put the book aside in frustration.
It doesn’t mean that reading is boring and irritating. Once reading habit gets developed you won’t want to spend a day without a book. Developing the habit of reading books or other materials is immensely affected by ones home and school environment and by media as well.
Reading deserves importance at all levels, especially in lower classes. A reading session should form part of the daily timetable in schools, wherein teachers encourage students to read a chapter or paragraph aloud. It is an easy task if you have qualities such as curiosity, can enjoy it aesthetically and have a challenging nature. But most important is to have desire to read.
There is no doubt that knowledge is power, and that books are full of knowledge. Through books, we can enrich our minds, learn about religion, strengthen our faith, and enjoy life more fully. Reading together is not only a learning activity that develops student’s language and listening skills it prepares them to be better readers.
