The University of East Anglia (UEA) is situated on a 270 acre campus in the city of Norwich. UEA comprises 19 schools of study. Alongside the traditional humanities, sciences and social sciences, there are many vocationally orientated courses. It gained its Royal Charter in 1961 and took its first students in 1963. It is ranked eighth best for science amongst UK universities.

Language needs

Students whose first language is not English are required to submit a recognised English Language qualification. IELTS and TOEFL are the preferred exams. Most courses require a minimum score of between IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 / TOEFL paper-based 550 to 585 / TOEFL computer-based 213 to 240 / TOEFL internet-based 80 to 95, or equivalent, to begin your course.

UEA offers around 300 taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and offers degrees by research in a wide range of subject areas.

Costs

For international students, the tuition fees for 2006/07 are as follows: Undergraduate — Arts and Social Sciences: £8,700, Sciences: £11,300, MBBS (Medicine): £17,100; Postgraduate — Arts and Social Sciences: £8,800, School of Management: £9,420, Sciences: £11,400.

Scholarship

UEA provides over £500,000 of scholarships each year to support international students. The awards are made by individual Schools of Study in the University. All international students (outside the EU) are considered for a scholarship of between 10 and 50 per cent of tuition fees. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and are normally for the duration of the period of study.
