Summer is definitely here and the scorching heat brings out all the oil in my face. A friend of mine told me to use a face powder but don’t know what kinds of face powders are available. Could you help me here? — Moni Gurung

There are two types of powders; loose and pressed. Loose powder does not streak the skin and makes the most matte face. It also lasts longer than pressed powders. Pressed powder is easy to carry around and can be used any time to dab the extra shine off your face.

I am fair and use heavy make up (according to my friends) but when I don’t use any, I look very pale. Help! — Sanjana Shrestha

You may think you are looking pale because of your white complexion. Try applying a light foundation, preferably a shade darker to your skin, a light blush and light sheer lipstick and see the difference less is in these days. Gone are the days of heavy caked up makeup.

I love applying makeup. I wanted to know how one applies the makeup base. —Tina Sharma

Your foundation should be a shade darker than your skin tone. When you buy a new foundation buy it in daylight. You can buy either a liquid or a cake foundation. Always apply foundation sparingly to avoid a caked up look. Dot foundation all over your face and neck and blend it with a dampened cosmetic sponge. Go easy on your foundation during summers and in monsoons or if you are staying outdoors for too long.

I have a whitish complexion and for quite sometime I have been planning to buy a gloss but am not able to decide on the colour. Which colour do you think will look good this summer? —Anita Sharma

The colours for your complexion are light browns or dark brownish red. Stay away from pinks or orange reds.
