Sobule accuses perry of title theft

LAS ANGELES: Singer/songwriter Jill Sobule has taken aim at Katy Perry in a fiery online interview, accusing the pop star of stealing the title of her 2008 smash hit I KISSED A GIRL from her.

Sobule goes so far as to call Perry "a f**king little slut” in the chat with TheRumpus.com, reminding music fans she penned the original I Kissed a Girl in the mid-1990s.

She rages, "When Katy Perry’s version came out I started getting tons of inquiries about what I thought. Some folks (and protective friends) were angry, and wondered why she took my title and made it into this kind of 'girls gone wild' thing. Others, including my mother, were excited because they thought I would somehow make some money out of it. Unfortunately you can’t copyright a title… bummer."

Sobule insists the title link is more than a coincidence because the man behind Perry's success is the same music executive who signed her on the back of her I Kissed A Girl hit.

She adds, "As a musician I have always refrained from criticising another artist... (but) when she said she came up with the idea for the title in a dream... In truth, she wrote it with a team of professional writers and was signed by the very same guy that signed me in 1995.

"I have not mentioned that in interviews as I don’t want to sound bitter or petty… cause, that’s not me.

"If I really think about it, there were a few jealous and p**sed off moments. So here goes, for the first time in an interview: F**k you Katy Perry, you f**king stupid... title thieving... f**king little slut."
