Students mark Dashain in US

KATHMANDU:

Nepali students studying at the South Dakota State University, Brookings celebrated Dashain with a bang. The festivities started by with the puja of Durga, which was followed by various events. Singing, dancing, jokes added to the festive mood, with Bingo being enjoyed by one and all. The students had prepared lavish Nepali dishes that were enjoyed by all, especially the well-prepared choyala, bhatmas sandekoand masu ko parikar.

The in-house DJ played different hit songs making everyone boogey. The event concluded by cutting a ‘Happy Dashain 2006’ inscribed cake by the eldest person present at the gathering. Apart from students, Nepali families living in nearby cities had also come to be part of the celebration.

The celebration was organised by Nepalese Student Association (NeSA), an association of Nepali students studying at SDSU. At present, 37 Nepali students are studying at SDSU in various undergraduate, post-graduate and PhD programmes.
