The titles of Best Skin and Miss Talent on her belt, Trisana Gurung was crowned Miss Teen Gurung 2005 in a grand finale of the Miss Teen Gurung beauty pageant at BICC, Baneshwor on the evening of June 17. Purnima Ghale and Shraddha Gurung were the winners first and second runners-up, respectively. As claimed by the organiser, A & H Business House Pvt. Ltd as the first of its kind, only teenaged girls from the Gurung community could participate in the contest. After undergoing training on etiquette and other requisite skills for them to walk on the ramp for 35 days, 32 contestants appeared onstage in traditional Gurung costume. The 13 semifinalists were asked to delivered speeches on general topics. The participants’ catwalk in traditional Gurung dress made the pageant an unusual but beautiful one. As Ishwar

Gurung of Namaste band fame put it: “Had the contestants spoken in their own language, that would have truly promoted the culture.” All in all, a wonderful evening.
