Ten years of creativity
Kathmandu:
It seems like this month will be remembered as the most fashionable month of the year 2007 as more and more fashion shows are being organised. IEC School of Art and Fashion has once again decided to turn the cold winter evening hot with their fabulous designs. On the occasion of its 10th anniversary IEC organised — IEC Designer Contest 2007 at Hotel Radisson on December 27. All together 175 designers of IEC Kathmandu, Pokhara, Butwal, Janakpur and Birgunj participated. Students of first year Diploma in Fashion Designing participated in the contest. The show focused on unique and outstanding designs made by using waste materials & fabrics.
Clad in innovative and creative outfits designed by the participants 16 models walked down the ramp. Though some just focused on projecting political issues some came up with really good creations that saved the entire show. Some of the designs looked way too common and some were unique in its own way.
All in all the designs were poles apart as some showcased the designers’ imagination and hard work and some lack of creativity. Dance numbers in between the show in Hindi and Nepali songs were a total waste of time. But the last performance in Aaja nachle received huge round of applauds for the dancer’s smile and brilliant performance.
There were altogether 10 judges from different corporate houses and other fields of work. Tenzing Tseten, Jasmine Shrestha, Kamala Shrestha, Sarad Veshwakar, Dorjee Sherpa, Mausami Gurung, Udaya Upadhaya, Sugarika KC, Ganesh Agarawal and Bipana Thapa were the judges for the event.
Best Designer 2007 was Biswas Silwal, 1st Runner-up Deepa Jalan and 2nd Runner-up Oma Devi Rai, they received Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. Other seven winners received Rs 1,000 each.
