THE WORLD THIS WEEK : Boy, 5, gets police job in India

Five-year-old Saurabh Nagvanshi has got a very responsible job — he works as a policeman in India. Saurabh got the job under special rules there where a family member can take the job of a relative if the relative dies while working in a government job. There is no age limit and many families are poor so have no choice but to send their children to work. They do one day at the office and one at school. Saurabh gets paid Rs 2,500 a month. Every other day his mother, Ishwari Devi Nagvanshi, takes him 110 km from his home in Bilaspur to Raipur where he works in the office. There he might spend the day doing filing or bringing water for senior officials. — Agencies
