THE WORLD THIS WEEK: Smart chimps
Chimpanzees have figured out how to cross roads safely, a team of scientists has discovered. Researchers saw big adult males at the front and back of groups crossing two roads, keeping the smaller chimps in the middle safe from danger. The findings show chimps are good at working together to help each other. The animals were seen crossing two roads in Bossou, Guinea. The researchers also think that because roads are quite a new thing for chimps to have to deal with, the remarkable behaviour shows they are very good at coming up with solutions to new problems.
