THE WORLD THIS WEEK: Stellar performance

A team of French astronomers have recorded the sounds of three of them using a space telescope. The stars all give off a repeating rhythm, which experts say suggests that each one is pulsating, or throbbing. Each one sounds slightly different too, as the noises they make depend on their size, age and what they’re made of. Scientists are really excited by the recordings as they give them an insight into what’s going on inside the stars. The technique of recording the star sounds is called stellar seismology.
