THE WORLD THIS WEEK: Truly a miracle boy

A 12-year-old boy has survived a crash which knocked his head from his neck. Chris Stewart’s neck was broken in an accident when he was taking a racing lesson. His head was only attached to his body by skin and muscle.

People usually don’t survive such accidents, but doctors got him back in one piece in a six-hour operation. They used a sp-ecial new technique — they had to use metal pins and bits of his own bones to reattach his head, in a very risky operation He still has difficulty talking and eating, because his tongue was injured, but Chris is doing well.
