Here comes a movie from Dharma Productions with loads and loads of style and surprises. Dostana has everything that a hit film requires — a different story, witty dialogues, great location, fabulous cinematography, peppy music, dazzling outfits, talented actors and a big banner.
The story revolves around two fun loving guys Sameer aka Sam (Abhishek Bachchan), who is a male nurse, and Kunal (John Abraham), a fashion photographer. They are both in search of an apartment and find the perfect place but there is a big problem — the owner wants only female tenants as her niece lives there all alone. With no place to live, they decide to lie that they are gay partners. But the problem begins when they realise that the niece is not a boring girl like her aunt but a fashion magazine editor Neha (Priyanka Chopra). To keep the apartment, they carry on with their charade and also register as gay partners to get residential permit from the state. And so one thing leads to another and Sam’s super-sensitive and over dramatic mum (Kirron Kher) arrives. When they think things are calming down, they realise that they are both in love with Neha and that’s not all. The dashing, sensitive and suave or say the perfect guy Abhimanyu (Bobby Deol) enters the picture. And the whole situation gets more and more hilarious.
Debutant director Tarun Mansukhani has brought out the best in every actor and has not let any character overshadow the other. Though the story seems pretty predictable in the beginning, the script moves in such a way that every incident ends up with a different result keeping the viewers interested. Emotions, fun, music and humour has been distributed intelligently throughout making the movie an all and all entertainment package.
Acting-wise it’s Abhishek who impresses the most with his comic timing and expressions. Priyanka once again gives a good performance and looks even better than in Fashion. She carries the swimsuit with elegance and looks ravishing throughout. John on other hand does the most skin show of all and does melt his female fans’ hearts with his boyish grin. The chemistry between all the actors is commendable, especially John and Abhishek. Bobby manages to carry his role perfectly and even though he has lesser screen time, he manages to impress all.
The whole movie is shot in Miami so the sun, sand and the nightlife of the city has been well presented. The Shilpa Shetty item song is in the casting but the other songs, Ma ka ladla, Desi girl, Jane kyon in between are even better than the item song. The music helps to keep the mood upbeat.
It’s a movie about friendship, shot in exotic locations, everyone is in designer outfits throughout, the music is rocking and you get to watch super sexy Priyanka, and John does not disappoint the girls. You can watch in once, or more.
