Unfolding the beauty of flowers

Kathmandu:

The paintings of Neera Joshi Pradhan being exhibited at the Park Gallery has one subject —flowers but with two perspectives. While the first set of paintings brings out the botanist in her, divulging into the minute details about the parts of the flowers, the second is dominated by her aesthetic self.

However, her creations at the exhibit takes a close look at the intricate details of the shades and lines of petals. She has expressed her love for flowers with the most colourful and romantic part — petals. “The one set of my paintings are more helpful for the botanist and scientist as the parts of flowers are shown clearly, while the other ones are my expression,” she said.

Pradhan has created the paintings by observing flowers from different gardens in the Valley. Created with watercolour the collection includes both wild and ornamental flowers. As the exhibition is titled ‘The colours of sepals and petals’, the artist has used colours both vivid and mild to capture the beauty of the flowers in her canvas. Her collection-included flowers like rhododendron, orchid, dhatura, iris, mongolia petals, rose petals, cotton silk tree, among others.

The exhibition was inaugurated jointly by Lauren Moriarty, wife of American ambassador and Kathie Hall wife of British Ambassador on April 20.

Speaking at the opening Moriarty said, “We walk by flowers everyday of our life and do not notice the beauty. Neera’s paintings have made me stop and appreciate the beauty.”

The exhibition will continue till May 15 at Park Gallery in Pulchowk.
