VALLEY JAUNTS: Spectacular Kakani
Kathmandu:
Describing the place will not do justice to the scenic beauty of Kakani and the route that leads to it. It is for you to go there and reap beautiful memories for posterity.
For this jaunt, we recommend either a motorbike or a mountain bike. It will take you around one-and-a-half hours by motorbike to reach Kakani from the Capital. That is if you do the journey without any stops.
You may feel like riding your bike at full speed, but be careful cause the buses that ply here do so at top speeds. So practice caution and remember it is better to arrive late than never at all.
The destination is beautiful no doubt, but here one might not be wrong in saying that it is the journey that is something to look forward.
Instead of just whizzing past, take it slow and easy. Take in the sights and smells around and just immerse yourself in the beauty so natural.
While in Kakani, visit the Kakani Memorial Park, which was established in honour of those who died in the 1992 Thai Air plane crash. On the other side of the park is the Mountaineers’ Memorial Center. And if you are up for some excitement and adventure, check out the rock climbing that they offer here.
Instead of taking the same route on the way back, take a left turn at Teenpeeple. You will not regret this for the view here is spectacularly awesome. And driving through the fields will give you another high.
However, remember this road is not good and you will need to ask for directions to make it back to Kathmandu. But believe me, it is worth it.
Don’t forget to take your shades and water. Pack some snacks if you are not comfortable eating outside. But if you are okay with local village food, it is available at one or two stops.
