Weekend lounge
From heritage walks to professional programmes, visiting galleries to tasting traditional cuisines, heritage expert Anil Chitrakar has multiple ways to enjoy his weekends.
Away from the crowd
KATHMANDU: Different activities that we are involved in keeps us busy during weekends. Both Rosha (wife) and I love to take our expatriate friends to historical sites to let them know a little more of our heritage. We call it ‘Heritage Walk’. Sometimes we also take school children for such tours.
Besides, we also organise ‘Professional development programme’ for corporate houses. We generally go to Borderland Resort at Bhotekoshi where people working together in a company can participate in different activities, which helps them build a team spirit and develop communication skills. For us, it’s also a reason to go out of Kathmandu on weekends and for them it’s a type of corporate retreat.
Usually on Fridays, we visit galleries to attend exhibitions and there are also other events that we go for. We also dedicate some time on Fridays for our organisation Crafted in Kathmandu.
We also go to try out places that serve traditional Nepali cuisines. In a way, we are trying to patronise these places. Although we try different places, most of the time we end up going to a place located on the lane between New Road and Jonche. When we go to these places, we do try out different pickles and yoghurts.
For me an ideal weekend would be to just get ready and set out. I love hiking on routes which very few people take, like the older trade route to Lhasa. There is this fort used during wars in the older times. I find it very relaxing to spend time on such places far away from the crowd.
