Wesley’s ‘Godfather’ act inspired Jamie Foxx

Foxx, who won the Golden Globe for his performance in “Ray”, stated that director Mario Van Peebles’ gangster film proved that black actors were not limited to stereotypical roles, said imdb.com. “My favourite film is ‘New Jack City’, basically a black version of ‘The Godfather’ and even though it was a hit it was more like an underground film. “It was the first time you saw a black kid (Snipes) play a role like Al Pacino in ‘Scarface’ or ‘The Godfather’,” Foxx was quoted as saying. — HNS
