KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 28

A fresh wave of snowfall has blanketed the Annapurna and Manaslu regions as a combined influence of westerly winds and a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea continues to trigger widespread precipitation.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), moderate to heavy snowfall and rainfall are expected to persist in Gandaki, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces through Monday. The department said the current weather system has drawn significant moisture into western Nepal, resulting in extensive rain and snow in the high Himalayan areas.

In northern Gorkha, several villages of Chumnubri Rural Municipality have been blanketed by snow since late Saturday. Locals reported that snowfall is continuing in Nile, Chhule, Pangdun, Lar, Phurpe, Lamagaun, Burji, Jong, and Chhekam-all settlements above 3,000 meters. According to locals, the area received light rainfall and snowfall last night, and it's still snowing with people and domesticated animals remaining inside.

Further west, villages including Samagaun, Syala, and Lho are also covered in snow, disrupting local life and trekking activity. Tourists attempting to cross the Larke Pass (5,106m) have been forced to halt midway due to deteriorating weather and poor visibility, local sources confirmed.

Similarly, in the Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m) area of Kaski district, heavy snowfall has turned the region white since monday night.

According to DHM, Jomsom will likely to experience moderate snowfall both during the day and at night, with temperatures between 14°C and 16°C in the daytime and 1°C to 3°C at night, accompanied by a 60 percent chance of precipitation. Jumla is also expected to experience snowfall today, with similar nighttime temperatures and up to 60 percent chance of rain in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the DHM forecasted that Kathmandu Valley will remain generally cloudy today, with maximum temperatures between 23°C and 25°C and around 30 percent chance of light rain. Tonight, the valley is expected to see cloudy skies with minimum temperatures ranging from 12°C to 14°C and no significant rainfall.
