Hot weather conditions are set to intensify across much of the Tarai and lowland regions, with chances of heatwave in parts of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The 24-hour forecast issued at 8:00 AM Thursday states that the weather will remain generally cloudy in the Himalayan region, partly cloudy in the hilly areas, and mainly fair in the Tarai.

There is a possibility of light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi Province, as well as the Himalayan areas of Gandaki and Karnali provinces.

Meteorologists have warned of hot day conditions across the Tarai, valleys and lowlands of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Heatwave conditions are likely in the Tarai districts of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim.

By evening, weather is expected to remain partly cloudy in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi Province and the Himalayan areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali, while the rest of the country will see mainly fair conditions. Light rain or snowfall is possible at a few places in Koshi's hilly and mountainous regions.

According to the department, the country is currently under the partial influence of westerly and local winds.

Among major locations, heatwave conditions have been forecast in Nepalgunj (39–41°C), Dhangadhi (38–40°C), Dipayal (38–40°C) and Bhairahawa (40–42°C).

Hot day conditions are also likely in Kathmandu (29–31°C), Biratnagar (34–36°C) and Janakpur (38–40°C).

Meanwhile, partly cloudy conditions are expected in hilly areas such as Pokhara and Dharan, while light rain with thunderstorms is likely in mountainous areas including Jomsom and Taplejung.

The department has urged the public to take necessary precautions against heat-related risks, particularly in the Tarai and lowland regions.
