KATHMANDU, APRIL 23
A Japanese woman climber was critically injured after falling from Lobuche peak in the Everest region this morning, expedition organisers said.
Da Dendi Sherpa, Managing Director at Glacier Himalaya Treks, confirmed that Yukie Morita was injured after she fell from 6,100m while returning from the summit of Lobuche peak at around 11:00 am.
A longline rescue was carried out by Altitude Air to airlift her to Kathmandu, he said.
The incident occurred when Yukie along with her guide Dhan Bhadur Tamang were descending from the summit point. "She fell onto other side of the peak after the climbing ropes broke," Sherpa said.
Longline rescue was conducted by Altitude's Instructor Pilot captain Bibek Khadka along with longline specialist Lokendra Dhami and ground crew Pasang Dawa Tamang.
She was brought to Feriche and then Lukla and Kathmandu for treatment this afternoon. Her condition is reported to be critical, Sherpa shared.
