Western tarai continues to experience sweltering heat

KATHMANDU, JUNE 18

The Bagmati province is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning over the next few days.

According to the Meteorological Forecast Division (MFD), along with Bagmati, some areas of Koshi, Gandaki, and one or two places in Madhesh province, as well as the rest of the country, are expected to see similar weather conditions during this period.

In the last 24 hours, Kathmandu received 22mm of rainfall, Okhaldhunga recorded 22.6mm, Biratnagar had 25.5mm, Taplejung saw 5.1mm, and Pokhara recorded 2.5mm of rainfall.

As per the MFD, Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces will experience partly to generally cloudy skies, while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to mainly fair weather conditions.

The current weather is influenced by local winds and a partial impact of a low-pressure system originating from the Bihar state of India. The eastern part of the country is under the influence of the monsoon system.

Despite the light rain, the weather in the western Tarai regions remains excessively hot. According to the temperature recorded by the MFD on Monday, the maximum temperature in Nepalgunj was 42.6°C, Dhangadi recorded 42.4°C, and Dipayal recorded 41.8°C.

The maximum temperature in Kathmandu on Monday was 30.5°C.
