KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 23
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public not to panic over social media reports of prolonged rainfall, saying rain is possible in some parts of the country from next Tuesday but its location, intensity and duration remain uncertain.
Meteorologist Rajan Maharjan of the department's Meteorological Forecasting Division said reports predicting a week of rain were causing particular concern among farmers, but no such forecast had been confirmed.
"People are requested not to follow rumours and not to panic," Maharjan said, adding that Nepal's weather forecasts were generally more reliable for up to three days than for a week.
The department will issue further information on the possibility of rainfall next week as the weather system becomes clearer. Maharjan urged the public to rely on the department's official updates rather than unverified social media posts.
