Weather to remain partly cloudy in several provinces; Kathmandu Valley to see cloudy skies with cool temperatures

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 18

Mist and fog are likely to persist in parts of the Terai region today as the country experiences the influence of westerly winds, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

The weather is expected to remain partly cloudy over Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as the hilly and mountainous regions of Gandaki Province. The rest of the country is likely to see mainly fair weather.

The Division has forecast a chance of light rain or snowfall at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces during the day.

Similar conditions are expected tonight, with mist likely to occur again in parts of the Terai. Partly cloudy skies will prevail over Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, along with the hilly and mountainous areas of Gandaki Province, while other regions will continue to experience generally fair weather. Light rain or snowfall is also possible at isolated locations in the high hills and mountains of Karnali and Gandaki provinces.

In the Kathmandu Valley, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy during the day, with maximum temperatures ranging between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius. At night, the sky is likely to clear, with minimum temperatures dropping to between 4 and 6 degrees Celsius.

In Jumla, generally cloudy conditions are forecast, with daytime temperatures between 15 and 17 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures falling to between minus 4 and minus 2 degrees Celsius. Jomsom is also expected to remain generally cloudy, with daytime temperatures ranging from 12 to 14 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures hovering between minus 1 and 1 degree Celsius.

Meteorologists said the current weather pattern is driven by a weak westerly system affecting Nepal, which is typical for this time of the year and often brings cloud cover and occasional precipitation in the western and mountainous regions.
