Moderate rain and thunderstorms expected in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki
KATHMANDU, MAY 25
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast continued heat wave conditions in parts of western Nepal on Monday, while moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are likely in several hilly and Himalayan regions.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, heat wave conditions are expected in the Terai districts of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces, while hot day conditions are likely in the hilly areas of the two provinces.
The Division stated that generally cloudy weather is likely over Koshi Province and the hilly and Himalayan regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is forecast at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Among major cities, Dhangadi and Nepalgunj are likely to witness heat wave conditions with temperatures ranging between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius, while Dipayal is expected to record temperatures between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius.
Birendranagar, Ghorahi and Bhairahawa are also likely to experience hot day conditions, with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius.
Kathmandu, Pokhara, Taplejung and Okhaldhunga are forecast to receive moderate rain with thundershowers.
The department said Nepal is currently under the influence of westerly and local winds along with a low-pressure system near the eastern region of the country.
