Lip-smacking Vietnam on my plate
I am a food lover and I try to explore the world in food every now and then. Every food tells a story about its country. In search of some unique cuisine, Pho 99 in Jhamsikhel caught my attention, a Vietnamese restaurant with a welcoming environment.
We were warmly greeted by the staff and were escorted to a table of their choosing, a perfect little corner. Comfortable couches and elegant interior with creative designs lent a charming touch to the overall ambience.
A few moments later we were running our finger down the food items on the menu. My friend asked me to choose the dishes for him as well. I was quite impressed with the design and presentation of the food items in menu. Since I was hungry, I opted for Pork Chop in Vietnamese style for the both of us skipping everything else. We then placed our order for Glass Noodle Soup, Tofu Curry Rice and Chicken Drumsticks. I know it sounds a little too much for two, but like I said, I was hungry!
Our food arrived in no time. I must confess that we had our plates clean in a matter of a few minutes. That was how hungry we were and how delicious the dishes were.
It seemed like my restless soul exploring for food had taken a momentary sabbatical. It was happy enjoying the juicy Pork Chops and
long grain rice with fresh herbs and vegetables.
I knew from my research that Vietnamese food is considered one of the healthiest cuisines worldwide, and I am glad we can taste a bit of Vietnam in Nepal now.
Then Glass Noodle Soup was prepared with chicken topped with green onion, cilantro, bean sprouts that was served with hoisin sauce, fresh chilli and lemon. Mild in nature, the dish was not so spicy. The transparent glass noodles really took me to the local market of Vietnam.
Tofu Curry Rice took my breath away. The presentation was remarkable. A bowlful of long grain rice and tofu in gravy, chilly, spring onion, tomatoes, made it quite a relish.
The burst of flavours in the chicken drumsticks hit my taste buds pleasantly. The chicken was filled with spices and grilled to perfection. The pickle enhanced the taste.
Satisfied and grinning, we bid our goodbyes to the friendly staff. To say that I was impressed with the food, the service and the overall experience would be an understatement. Pho 99 got everything right!
After a long exploration and search for good authentic Vietnamese cuisine, my search ends here, and a new search begins, may be new place, new food... a new me. I am waiting.
