KATHMANDU, JANUARY 3
The Ministry of Health and Population has cautioned the public regarding the new Covid-19 sub-variant JN.1, which is currently spreading in several countries globally, including neighboring nations.
In a press release on Wednesday, the health ministry said that it is actively monitoring the spread of this sub-variant, in collaboration with the respective countries. However, despite the confirmation of this new Omicron variant in neighboring countries, Nepal is yet to confirm it through gene sequencing technology, the ministry said.
In response to the escalating spread of the sub-variant, the ministry said that it has initiated screening and monitoring measures at all entry points through Help Desks, engaging health service providers, and coordinating with relevant authorities. The ministry emphasized its preparedness for effective COVID-19 management.
Simultaneously, the ministry urged the public to exercise caution in crowded places such as fairs, gatherings, and parties. It stressed the importance of adhering to public health standards, including the use of masks, maintaining physical distance, and placing special emphasis on hand hygiene.
