RAUTAHAT, AUGUST 18

A 65-year-old man from Gajara Municipality, Rautahat, has died from Japanese Encephalitis (JE), marking the district's first reported fatality of the season.

The deceased, identified as Shyam Kishor Kami of Gajara-1, passed away late Sunday night while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Provincial Hospital Gaur, hospital officials confirmed.

Kami was admitted to the ICU on August 14 after his condition became critical. Due to the severity of his illness, he could not be transferred elsewhere and continued receiving treatment at the same hospital until his death.

"This was the first severe JE case reported in our hospital, but despite efforts, we could not save him," said Armina Chaudhary, a nursing staff member at the ICU.

Health officials have expressed concern over the growing prevalence of Japanese Encephalitis in the Terai districts, urging people to adopt precautionary measures to reduce the risk of infection.
