The Surya Nepal Central Open is teeing off here at the Gokarna Golf Club on Tuesday.

A total of 21 pros and nine amateurs are taking part in the fifth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2022- 23, informed the organisers in a press release today. The event carries a cash purse of Rs 800,000.

Nepal No 1 pro-Sukra Bahaudr Rai, who has been also plying his trade in the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), will be looking to defend the title, while he is expected to get a tough fight from former top pros Bhuvan Nagarkoti and Rabi Khadka along with Sanjay Lama, Dinesh Prajapati, Jayaram Shrestha and Niraj Tamang. Top amateur golfer Subash Tamang and fellow national team member Sadbhav Acharya are also regarded as title contenders.

Cut will be applied after 36 holes with top 21 pros and at least six amateurs making it to the final two rounds. Out of the total cash purse, top five pros will receive Rs 140,000, Rs 90,000, Rs 67,000, Rs 55,000 and Rs 47,000 respectively. Others in top 21 will get their share of cash prizes.

"Gokarna Golf Course has been prepared for this topnotch game, and the greens are rolling probably at the fastest speed. This will definitely test the ability of the best golfers of the country," said the Professional Golfers Association Nepal.
