Two parties today filed their application for contesting the forthcoming municipal election, scheduled to be held on February 8, Election Commission today said.

Election Commission spokesperson Tej Muni Bajracharya said two parties - Swatantra Nepal Party and Rastriya Janakalyan Party - filed their application to contest in the election. With two parties today, the number of parties registering with the EC for the forthcoming election has reached ten.

“We are collecting applications but have not yet recognised any one of them as political parties. This is a matter of procedure and it will take some time,” he said, adding, the recognition process will complete before the dateline for nomination of the contestants.
