102 killed in Nepal floods, landslides in past one week: Govt

KATHMANDU: As many as 102 persons died in natural disasters including floods, landslides and inundation in 43 districts of the nation since Monday last week, according to a senior minister.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bhim Bahadur Rawal informed so while speaking at the Parliament meeting today.

Total 22 persons are missing from the incidents while 58 are injured, according to Rawal.

The DPM said the government had been coordinating among various ministries, security agencies and district-based administrative offices for rescue, relief and search operations in the areas hit by floods and landslides.

He informed the Parliament that the government had recently released Rs 750 million for natural disaster management.

Pyuthan, Baglung and Banke districts have been identified as most vulnerable ones and the concerned agencies there have been kept alert, according to him.

Meanwhile, responding to lawmakers' concerns about a clash ensued between locals of Nepal and India in Tilathi village of Saptari district bordering India recently, he said the government took the situation under control with an agreement not to construct any structure there for now.

On July 28, tension had run high in the area after some Nepalis protested reconstruction of the dam carried out by India after it was swept away by a recent flood.

Those injured in the incidents have been givenĀ free treatment, according to the Minister.
