163 unclaimed motorbikes in Customs custody

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) received altogether 598 complaints of motorcycle theft in the last three months.

However, the MTPD's investigation unearthed that only 74 owners so far collected their property. Among the remaining cases, no one claimed the ownership for 163 motorcycles, which are now being sent to the customs office.

"Mostly, such incidents are recurring because of the biker's irresponsibility. It's irony as they can spend a huge sum of money on a motorcycle but least bothered to spend a few hundreds to buy durable locks for their vehicles", says Inspector Roshan Acharya at MTPD. “Some victims come here with their complaints in a hurry but hardly show up next time to enquire the whereabouts of their bikes,” he informed.
