As many as 178 people were killed in road accidents in the Kathmandu Valley (Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts) in eleven months of the current fiscal year, 2022/23, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.

Similarly, 242 people were seriously injured, and 7,363 sustained minor injuries in accidents in the Valley.

Ninety three of them died in motorcycle and scooter accidents, while 56 were pedestrians also killed. More than half of the deceased (35 men and 43 women) were of 17-35 age group.

Negligence of the drivers, over speeding, drink-driving, overtaking, bad weather and other technical problems have been blamed for the accidents.
