2 held for swindling Rs 3.4 mln out of foreign job seekers

KATHMANDU: Two persons, who allegedly swindled Rs 3.4 million out of two persons in pretext of sending them to South Korea for foreign employment, have been arrested on fraud charges recently, police said.

A special police team deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division arrested 35-year-old Dambar Bahadur Basnet of Bahundagi-3 in Jhapa and 42-year-old Rita Gurung Dagi of Imadol in Lalitpur district from assorted locations in Kathmandu yesterday.

The suspects duo had promised their targets -- Laxmi Rai of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-11 and Radha Neupane of Syangja district -- to obtain agriculture visa of South Korea before collecting Rs 3.4 million from them.

The arrestees have been sent to Metropolitan Police Range in Kathmandu for further investigation and action today, police said.

If convicted, they will be liable to five years in prison and fine equal to repayment of principal amount as per the provision incorporated in Muluki Ain, also known as the Civil Code of Nepal.
