2 killed, 1 injured in separate road accidents

KATHMANDU: Two persons lost their life and one sustained critical injuries in separate road accidents in the Kathmandu Valley on Friday and Saturday.

A cyclist, who was critically injured after being hit by a water tanker on Friday, breathed his last during the course of treatment at the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

Police said that the man who appeared to be in his mid-30s is yet to be established.

The tanker (Ba 3 Kha 356) was heading towards Basundhara from New Bus Park, KMC-29 it fatally hit the cyclist.

Police said they have impounded the vehicle and arrested its driver Chet Bahadur Khatri (53) of Phedikot, Okhaldhunga for investigation.

Similarly, one person died and another sustained critical injuries in a tipper (Ba 3 Kha 5661) accident near Dhungakhani of Dakshinkali Municipality-9, on the outskirts of Kathmandu, today.

Police identified the deceased as tipper driver Subash Tamang (30) of Dakshinkali-6.

Assistant driver Sunil Tamang (20) of Hudu, Dakshinkali-12, was critically injured in the incident.

He has been sent to the Manmohan Smriti Community Hospital for treatment.

Police said that the accident occurred due to brake failure.
