25 Thamel sex workers in police custody
KATHMANDU: Metropolitan Police Range (MPR), Hanumandhoka on Tuesday night raided two guest houses in the tourist hub, Thamel and arrested 25 persons, including sex workers and their clients. Police said that it was the second raid of the kind this week.
The arrests were made from the Siddhartha and the Regal guest houses that were believed to be involved in illegal activities for long. Of the arrested, 15 were girls and caught for indulging in indecent activities, said SP Ganesh KC, in-charge, MPR.
Police maintained that they had raided the guest houses as locals nearby complained about the activities. KC said that the arrested will be put on trial under the Public Offence Act. The alleged call girls were of 14 - 25 age groups. Sex trade is illegal in Nepal,however, voices are being raised to legalise it in the country.
