300,000 customers hit

Kathmandu, August 7

Up to three lakh subscribers of Subisu Cablenet (P) Ltd were affected across the country after its data centre located at its Baluwatar head office caught fire today.

While the internet service in the Baluwatar area remains disrupted, the company claimed that it was able to resume services to other areas of the valley and across the country by around 5:30pm.

According to Sudhir Parajuli, chief executive officer of Subisu, as the company has a backup data centre in Thapathali, they were able to resume internet services quite soon. “But, Baluwatar area may be affected for the next few days,” he added.

However, hundreds of Subisu subscribers took to the social media today saying the internet connection was down in their area.

Subisu’s Clear TV services were also disrupted after the incident. “It may take longer to resume our TV services. We will try to resolve the Clear TV issue by Thursday evening,” he said.

Fortunately, no human casualty or injury has been reported. According to Parajuli, it might take some time to gauge the loss caused by the fire.

Subisu has been providing its broadband and net television services in 65 districts.
