41,000 voters barred from polling: DEAN
Kathmandu, July 15:
The Election Commission prohibited 41,170 eligible voters from practising their right to vote in the CA polls stating that their names were not in the voters’ lists, according to a report of the Democracy and Election Alliance Nepal.
“As many as 5,129 people were allowed to vote though they were not eligible,” claims DEAN in its final report on the April 10 CA election released here today.
Due to the lack of proper monitoring system, 7,650 proxy votes were cast in 318 polling centres. “Necessary procedures were not followed in most of the polling centres in Kathmandu and Lalitpur. Some representatives of the political parties let voters cast votes without proper documents as required by the law and the EC officers did not seek documents from them.”
The report said 61.35 per cent of the votes were cast on average in the election, adding that vote counting centres were also found inappropriate in many places.
“Around 10 per cent of the polling centres had poor security management,” the report said.
