5 fringe parties walk out of CA session

KATHMANDU: Expressing their dissent over the 16-point agreement signed among four major political parties and a Constituent Assembly (CA) panel report based on that, five fringe parties walked out of the CA meeting on Friday.

The parties attended the CA meeting as it began, sought a time to express their opinion and walked out of the session which was discussing the report.

Lawmakers from Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Nepal, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Sadbhawana Party, Federal Socialist Party and Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party left the meeting after MJF-D Chair Upendra Yadav aired his views on the agreement, on behalf of them.

The Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC) had tabled its report on key disputes of the statute to the CA based on the agreement signed on Monday by Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic.

The fringe parties, however, have expressed their reservations on the deal, especially the agreements that the nation will have eight Pradeshes and a federal commission will set borders of the Pradeshes in the federal structure.

The CA is likely to endorse the report through a majority vote and send it to the Constitution Drafting Committee to prepare the first draft of the constitution.
