50 years of Nepal Bhasa reviewed

A total of 73 original novels written in Nepal Bhasha have been published so far in the 50 years history of language. Mima (the woman) written by Dhunswa Sayami was the first novel published in 2011 BS. Mima , Pasa (friend), Bhrikuti, Nheyak (mirror), Nnasamphagucha are some of the masterpieces in the language.

Sayami has written 10 novels, which is the highest number by a single writer in Newari literature. The only female writer in the language is Shashi Kala Manandhar. The youngest novelist writing in Nepal Bhasha is Shanta Raj Shakya, the writer of Luphi, and the latest entry in the Newari literature is Nhyanachwangu pala (The moving steps) penned by novelist Najar Ram Maharjan.

The history of fiction writing in the language is a short one though it is among the most ancient languages in Nepal, said researcher Chandra Man Bajracharya.
