80 students provided with scholarships on Lhosar

Kathmandu, February 25:

On the occasion of the Sherpa New Year (Lhosar) 2133, Himalayan Community Development Organisation (HCDO) today gave away scholarships to 80 students from across the country, including to 33 students from Kathmandu.

Danish Ambassador to Nepal, Finn Thilsted, handed over the scholarships to the students of Kathmandu during a function here today. Scholarships are also being provided to the poor but diligent students of other mountainous districts.

Addressing the function, Thilsted wished everyone a very happy New Year 2133. “Sherpas are famous around the world,” he said: “I dreamed of visiting Nepal after reading about the first ascent of the highest mountain in the world.”

Saying that all three parties to the conflict in Nepal were trying to figure out a solution, he added: “Nepal will have democracy one day.”

“Nepal does not have fewer resources as compared to Denmark. You can follow the path taken by the Danish people in order to create a well-functioning society,” he said.
