Absconding foreign employment fraud convict held
KATHMANDU: A man, absconding after being convicted of foreign employment fraud, has been nabbed from Kalimati of Kathmandu, on Tuesday.
A team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police arrested Uttam Maharjan, from Ravibhawan, KMC-14, yesterday.
The Foreign Employment Tribunal had slapped him with a two-year imprisonment and Rs 200,000 fine on February 12, 2012.
He was convicted of defrauding three persons – namely, Gyanichhori Maharjan and her husband Raj Kumar Maharjan from Kirtipur Municipality-10 of Kathmandu as well as Hari Regmi from Baneshwor, KMC-10 – of Rs 3.51 million collectively assuring that he would help them get lucrative jobs in Canada around six and half years ago.
Police produced him before the Kathmandu District Court for execution of the sentence.
