Absconding human trafficker arrested

Dolakha, August 26

Police have arrested the man, who was involved in the trafficking of a 17-year-old girl to India about a year ago. Nir Kumar Nepali, 23, of Nuwakot, Kharanitar, arrested from Kathmandu, Maharajgunj yesterday, was paraded amidst a press conference at District Police Office, Dolakha, today.

According to DSP Rameshwor Karki, Sabita Nepali (name changed) of Dolakha, Baiteshwor Rural Municipality-6, Namdum, was trafficked to India a year ago.

“It was learnt that he’d sweet-talked the girl into tagging him to Kathmandu with an assurance of marriage, but she was later taken to a brothel in New Delhi via Nepalgunj and handed over to a procurer for INR 135,000,” he said.

Further, police identified Namdum’s Sita Nepali, a distant relative of the trafficker, as an accomplice in the trafficking case. She is in judicial custody now. Sabita, who recently managed to come out of the brothel with the help of an Indian youth, returned to Nepal a few months ago. She is receiving vocational training under the aegis of Maiti Nepal.

Meanwhile, according to DSP Karki, Nir Kumar has also admitted to selling his own wife. “As learnt from his statement, he had sold his first wife Goma Pariyar with the help of two men of his village,” Karki said.
