KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday arrested a man who was convicted of a 13-year-old robbery case in Lalitpur from Jhapa of east Nepal.

Duren Rai (40), a permanent resident of Topgachhi-5 in Jhapa district, was arrested from his home district by a special team from the Central Investigation Bureau yesterday.

Rai among five was convicted of robbing one Durga Bahadur Limbu of Rs 1.066 million cash and a mobile set in Lalitpur-5 on September 22, 2003.

The Lalitpur District Court on February 13, 2014 had convicted Rai of the crime and sentenced him to jail for six years along with a fine of Rs 1.617 million.

Meanwhile, police produced him before the Jhapa District Court for execution of the sentence.

The Court subsequently sent him to the Chandragadhi-based Jhapa District Jail.

Meanwhile, the CIB also arrested a polygamy convict from Gongabu of Kathmandu on Thursday.

Rajendra Kumar Baniya, a permanent resident of Mulpani-6 of Dhading district, was on the run since the Dhading District Court convicted him of polygamy.

The Court had handed down a three-year jail term and Rs 25,000 fine on him.

The Kathmandu District Court, meanwhile, sent him to the Central Jail in Sundhara to execute the sentence while police produced him before the Court.
