Action against Nirmala's guilty within a week: Home Minister

KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has expressed commitment to take action against the guilty of Nirmala Panta rape and murder case within a week.

Receiving a memorandum submitted by student organizations close to the Communist Party of Nepal, today, the Home Minister said that the report submitted by Probe Committee formed to investigate the Nirmala Panta case would be made public soon. The student organizations submitted the memo to the Home Minister demanding immediate action against the guilty.

The student organsiations  suggested that the government must focus the investigation on the Bam sisters, the Superintendent of Police of Kanchanpur, and other suspected police officers.

The memorandum contains the students' demand to sack the police chief since the Nepal Police has failed to make the security body effective in the security of the citizens. They also stressed on keeping provisions for handing life imprisonment against those involved in rape, acid attack and such heinous crimes.

The student leaders also drew government's attention to control series of rape, acid attack and murder incidents taking place in the country every day.

All Nepal National Free Students Union Chairperson Nabina Lama, and All Nepal National Independent Student Union (Revolutionary) Ranjit Tamang, among others had reached Home Ministry to submit the memo.
