ADB begins survey for metalling road

Kathmandu, December 7:

The Project Directorate of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has recently started a survey for blacktopping of the road from Baireni of Dhading to Syaprubesi of Rasuwa.

The road is expected to promote economic growth and reduce poverty in isolated rural communities in northern part of the central development region.

“The 90-kilometre long road goes through Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati, Dhunche to Syprubesi,” Pradeep Shakya, engineer at the Asian Development Bank Project Directorate said, adding that NDLEA, a canadian company working under the ADB, is surveying and designing the road simultaneously.

Nepal’s 10th Five Year Plan had recognised the need for improving rural transport connectivity to major towns and cities to improve access and stimulate economic growth. This road also joins with Mahendra Highway at Trishuli.

ADB has already agreed to provide a grant assistance of $55 million for the construction of 500 kilometres connectivity roads in the rural areas of Nepal, he said.
