Kathmandu, August 18

CPN-UML student in-charge Rabindra Adhikari today said he would resolve the differences between All Nepal National Free Students Union Chairperson Nabina Lama and general secretary Ain Mahar over the division of responsibilities among central committee members of the party’s student wing.

Adhikari said he would sort out the disputes by holding talks with other leaders.

During the ANNFSU standing committee meeting yesterday, Adhikari had asked the duo to resolve their problems themselves. But when they failed to resolve differences, Adhikari decided to step in.

Mahar had called for a separate national assembly on August 20 but he called it off after Adhikari offered to resolve the disputes. “During the standing committee meeting, Adhikari said that he would talk to party leaders regarding the disputes and find out a solution by the next meeting,” said Mahar.

During the 22nd general convention of ANNFSU six months ago, there was tough competition between student factions close to UML party chairperson KP Oli and senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal.

The student panel close to Oli had won majority posts during the convention. However, differences between Oli led panel’s chairperson Lama and general secretary Mahar deepened.

Mahar side was dissatisfied with Lama after she could not define the responsibilities of ANNFSU central committee members even six months after the general convention, while those given responsibilities were close to Lama side only.

“We tried to resolve our differences through talks but our chairperson refused to listen to us,” said Mahar.

Vice-chairpersons Sunita Baral and Mahesh Bartaula, and secretaries Amrit Buda, Samik Baral and RC Lamichhane are supporting the Mahar side.

Meanwhile, Lama claimed that all the decisions she took so far were in line with the ANNFSU statute.

Three ANNFSU secretaries Sudesh Parajuli, Aarati Lama and Osim Alam and some members in the central committee close to Nepal are supporting Lama.
