‘Vulgar’ Holi revelry worries artistes
Kathmandu, March 3:
Cine artistes today expressed dismay over the changing style of celebrating Holi, the festival of colours.
“It is really disappointing to see that the festival of Holi has brought message of hate, threat and violence in the society,” said Rekha Thapa, an actor, while addressing an interaction on Holi and its cultural significance.
She complained about mischievous boys throwing water at girls walking in the streets.
Thapa also said that people from all walks of life should come on this day to celebrate the festival as a symbol of friendship, social gathering and wishing one another for colourful future. She was of the view that Holi is a symbol of love.
Comedian Jitu Nepal stressed on celebrating the festival in more amicable atmosphere and making it a festival of social gathering.
“The turn of the events have made it that the festival of Holi is considered an occasion when you can do anything you like. People are seen in the street doing things what any civilized person cannot imagine of doing, mostly to women folks,” he said.
Titha Thapa, a film producer, said Holi has a special significance this year because everything is going chaotic and even the Holi is not brining any happiness to the people because of the political uncertainty.
“The political situation is such that it is not the time to celebrate any festival in joyful mood. Communal and regional clashes are everywhere. The country is heading toward unexplainable disaster,” said civic society leader Dr Sundar Mani Dixit.
