Agitating Dr KC’s health worsening

Kathmandu, October 9

The health condition of Dr Govinda KC, a senior orthopaedic surgeon, who has been on a fast-unto death for the last four days, is deteriorating.

Issuing a health bulletin, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital said Dr KC’s blood pressure was low. He is also suffering from muscle cramps and dizziness and has difficulty breathing.

Dr KC is on his 13th hunger strike, demanding immediate passage of the Medical Education Bill as per the recommendations made by the Mathema-led panel. He has also demanded that medical colleges follow the fee structure set by the government for MBBS course.

He has sought removal of the dean and vice-chancellor of Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences and resumption of classes at Karnali Institute of Health Sciences. Dr KC has also demanded establishment of medical colleges in Doti, Dadeldhura, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Udaypur, Panchthar and Terathum, among other districts.

In addition, he has also opposed the government decision to allow CTEVT to grant affiliation to technical institutes and colleges. TUTH had formed a medical team to look after Dr KC’s health condition yesterday. The seven-member team is led by Dr Pradip Krishna Shrestha.
