Agitating KMC staff invited for parleys
Kathmandu, January 17:
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has invited its agitating employees for talks tomorrow to sort out their 36-point demand.
The employees wrapped up their sit-in for the day today following the KMC invitation. Dinesh Thapaliya, the executive administrator of the KMC, said the KMC management would discuss their demands in detail tomorrow and hopefully reach an agreement.
However, Karna Thapa, the vice-president of the Nepal Rastriya Karmachari Sangathan, said the protest would continue till their demands were met. “Tomorrow’s talks will determine the course of our protest,” he said. Reiterating one of their demands, he said, “All non-permanent staffers of the KMC should be made permanent,” he said, adding there will be no compromise on their stance. “The management has been insisting that only those who joined the KMC before 2001 should be made permanent. We will never accept the cut-off date of 2001,” he said.
Putting forth their 36-point demand, including permanent status for all non-permanent employees working at the KMC, the Nepal Rastriya Karmachari Sangathan Loknath Chudal and Sanyukta Ganatantrik Majdur Morcha have been organising a sit-in on the KMC premises from 10 am to 4 pm since January 10.
